Hi, Jack!

My name is Carter Smalley, and I am an IPG InterAct Associate. The IPG InterAct Associates Program is a two-year entry-level rotational program intended to recruit and retain an internal pipeline of multicultural talent within the IPG network. Being a part of Jack’s parent company has been such a great opportunity because I am learning about IPG’s many different agencies and offerings.

Every six months, I have the opportunity to rotate to a different agency within the IPG network. For the past three months, I’ve been working at the brand experience agency Jack Morton.

My background

Prior to working at Jack, I recently graduated from Ithaca College with a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Marketing Communications and a minor in Legal Studies. Throughout college, I had several internships that solidified my interest in PR, experiential marketing and events. Starting out at Jack has been a great way to tie in all of those experiences.

My second week here, the Cadillac team had me working as a Production Assistant at one of their biggest events of the year.

My Jack experience

makeeverydaycountDuring the past three months, I’ve worked on a variety of accounts across many different industries.  Some of the accounts have been in the automotive, luxury, spirits, non-profit and insurance industries. My favorite account to work on has been Jack’s longtime client Cadillac. I love working with the team and feel that they are doing such innovative work with the brand.

The team has really set the pace for my time at Jack. My second week here, the Cadillac team had me working as a Production Assistant at one of their biggest events of the year.

New business

I’ve also been able to experience the business development side of the agency. I’ve enjoyed working very closely with one of the Account Directors in her efforts to prospect for new business. It’s been a great opportunity to conduct research, learn more about a category and to discover insights.

Focusing on new business has really showed me what it takes to thrive in such a fast–paced industry. My efforts have recently shifted towards working on newer accounts, which has taught me so much about setting up a strong agency/client relationship.

The past three months have been such a rewarding experience, and I can’t wait to see what the next three have in store. Thanks so much to everyone at Jack Morton!
