Inside the NBA 2022
There’s an old saying — if ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
There was nothing broken about the beloved set of NBA on TNT with its iconic arches. There was, however, room for improvement. The challenge in updating the set centered around making bold, future-forward improvements without losing the look, feel and fun that fans have come to know and love over the years.
The new design is clean and modern, inspired by stadiums and arenas around the country. Dark wood planking, bright light accents and reflective metal come together to form an angular space that subtly nods to the past while planting itself firmly in the now. The studio is framed by a series of architectural brackets, running the length of the studio. They are connected by linear stripes of gleaming metal shelves and pops of color-changing lightboxes. Beyond these foreground elements, rear lit graphics pull the viewer into a glowing warehouse with crisp concrete architecture, adding immense depth to the studio. To top things off, six vertical LED arrays are nestled into the brackets and move in and out of the frame, allowing for greater flexibility in storytelling.
At the center of it all sits a sleek new desk. A solid-gloss black body looks as if it were bent into shape, with its waterfall edge dipping down at the midpoint. Within this outer shell, layers of edge-lit metal and thin lighting details frame an LED screen across the face, allowing for eye-catching dynamic content.
Edge-lit plexiglass fins flank the large LED anchor screen, reclad in a minimal dark metal frame. The existing crow’s nest now features an open look, visually connecting the research and lighting crews with the rest of the cast. This fresh, dramatic floating metal staircase with multiple platforms doubles as an alternate guest entrance onto the set.
As we’ve done for the last two decades, Jack Morton has adapted Inside the NBA for the future, while preserving much of the iconic look and feel of the original set. Proof that change can be good and great things are in store for NBA fans everywhere.
