Lords of the Fallen II: Tattoo Sanctum
Transforming fan devotion into living culture
In 2025, CI Games was headed to Gamescom 2025 with the cinematic trailer for the soulslike, dark fantasy game, Lords of the Fallen II. But with the game still in development and no playable demo to offer fans, how could we bridge the gap between the trailer hype and the future 2026 game launch? We needed to create an experience that would turn passive fan viewership into active and memorable participation.
In dark fantasy culture, identity isn’t shown, it’s claimed. Symbols, scars, and markings aren’t decoration; they’re declarations of allegiance. So, we gave fans a way to embody the universe they love, not simply preview it.
We created The Tattoo Sanctum—a ritual space forged out of the lore of the game, where attendees could “take the mark” on their skin through ink or henna tattoos. We blurred the lines between reality and fiction by transforming a compact 10×15 footprint into an immersive tattoo parlor staffed by professional artists and designed with runic flooring, blood‑red lighting, a weapons chandelier, and more.
Impact
The Tattoo Sanctum drew 30,000 visitors to our tiny booth, making it the most talked about booth at Gamescom. Tattoo slots overbooked by 271%, pushing the activation to 113% operational capacity. The clients absolutely loved it, even getting tattoos themselves and using the space as a backdrop for press interviews.
