Tha God’s Honest Truth
An environment inspired by the host’s loves
Lenard McKelvey — best known as radio personality Charlamagne tha God – is the new voice of late-night television on Comedy Central.
To create a unique home for his premiere, we collaborated with the show’s creators, host Lenard “Charlamagne” McKelvey and executive producer Stephen Colbert, to imagine an environment inspired by the host’s loves, including Afro-futurist design and radio-themed elements, creating a space like no other.
Three distinct functional areas emerged as necessary for the show’s flow, including a key desk area designed to reflect his on-air roots, and an interview area with a backdrop of original artwork by popular artist, Laolu. The iconic mural depicts the narrative of Charlamagne’s story in Laolu’s distinct style, with a portion of the wall as a transparent scrim.
And finally, an electrifying Tunnel wraps behind the Interview Area, with a band of curving displays, providing a dramatic entrance and staging area for Charlamagne.
Smart and unexpected, the set is designed to support and amplify Charlamagne’s unique and powerful voice.
