The NHL on TNT
A first-of-its-kind, 360-degree broadcast studio fully equipped with projection mapping technology.
They said it couldn’t be done. They said projection mapping loves a dark room, and a TV studio requires too much light.
We proved them wrong.
The NHL on TNT is a first-of-its-kind, 360-degree broadcast studio fully equipped with projection mapping technology. Integrating incredible innovations from live experiences into the world of studio television.
The set features over 1,000 square feet of LED tiles soaring 13 feet high, eight projectors with lenses set to cover every inch of the studio walls with 220,000 lumens of light output, and nearly 28 million pixels, creating a canvas that can evolve and enhance its storytelling ability.
The studio embodies hockey at every turn. The 360-degree set is shaped to resemble a rink. Layers of light and undulating walls pull from skate lines left on the ice after a game. Puck inspired textures wrap the room and slide down creating the frames for two large 1.9mm LED screens. The asymmetrical anchor desk features custom LED tiles and edge lit ice shards, held in place by a stylized hockey stick. It sits on top of a floating puck on a printed glossy floor inspired by black ice.
Two 86” tracking monitors allow for flexible storytelling. A 45-degree crack in the wall represents the perfect place for an LED standup area, and analysts can ‘get on the ice’ in the demo area with official NHL equipment to, act out plays and give play-by-play feedback.
Impact
We helped TNT’s NHL broadcast coverage stand out in a big way. Their first-ever NHL regular season game, Rangers vs. Capitals, averaged 817,000 viewers — the largest audience on record for a night-2 season NHL game.
