Transforming CBS This Morning

CBS This Morning Set

CBS “This Morning” is a complete replacement for the “Early Show,” with a hard news focus and a roundtable format. We were asked to take a real, vintage brick-walled space and transform it into the active, working studio backdrop for hosts Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Erica Hill.

We renovated the space, stripping paint from brick walls and metal columns, adding glass panels and installing a new floor. A circular anchor platform is the center of the action, with a sleek, round table for the home base position. A glass-walled green room allows guests to be part of the show before they reach the anchor desk.

Historic CBS artifacts fill glowing light box bookcases, and the actual world map set piece from Walter Cronkite’s broadcasts adorns a wall of the space. This vintage environment is energized with electronic media, as large monitor walls and acrylic projection surfaces flank the anchor platform. A wall-mounted monitor display echoes the control room feeds.
